has bucket list dreams of going on an African safari.
likes to vacation on the move. The group will be spending time in Cape Town, the Winelands, and the Bush.
South Africa
The southernmost country in Africa, South Africa is geographically varied consisting of cities, coastal towns, winelands, mountainous areas, and the bush. While in South Africa, Fit & Fly guests will be concentrating their time in three areas of the Western and Southern Cape: Cape Town, a city nestled between a mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean; the Winelands, comprised of the three wine-making towns of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl, and located one hour from Cape Town; and the Gondwana Game Reserve, a 26,000 acre reserve with free roaming Big Five, located four hours from Cape Town.
The winchester hotel, Cape Town
For the first three nights of the retreat, Fit & Fly South Africa guests will stay in a Classic Room at The Winchester Hotel, a boutique hotel in Cape Town located at the Sea Point Promenade facing the Atlantic coastline.
Built in the 1920s in the Dutch Revival style, the Winchester Hotel has 76 rooms, a restaurant, bar, outdoor pool, and bougainvillia-adorned courtyard with dining.
Please note that other guests will be staying at The Winchester Hotel alongside Fit & Fly guests. Also please note that retreat guests will be staying in the Classic Room category, which does not have a sea view. Because the hotel is housed in a heritage building, Classic Rooms will vary in size and decor. If you wish to upgrade to a suite with a view, please inquire with us as to rates and availability.
Boschendal wine estate, the winelands
Fit & Fly South Africa guests will spend the next 2 nights of the retreat in the Winelands of South Africa at Boschendal, a farm dating back to 1685 and one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa located between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in South Africa's Western Cape.
Voted one of the nine best family hotels in the world by Condé Nast Traveller in 2020, Boschendal’s cottages offer both a farm living and a contemporary feel. Retreat guests will stay in Boschendal’s Retreat Cottages, consisting of two bedrooms (one bedroom with one bed and one bedroom with two beds) and two bathrooms. A guest who booked a one bedroom will be paired in a Retreat Cottage with guests who booked a two bedroom. Retreat Cottages also include a kitchen, sitting area, and front and back patios.
While staying at Boschendal, guests willl have access to the outdoor pool, restaurants, spa, farm shop, art gallery, mountain biking and hiking trails, and garden tours.
Please note that other guests will be staying at Boschendal Wine Estate alongside Fit & Fly guests. Also please note that Retreat Cottages are a long walk from the main area at Boschendal.
Kwena Lodge Suites, gondwana Private Game Reserve
Fit & Fly South Africa guests will spend the last two nights of the retreat at Kwena Lodge Suites in the Gondwana Private Game Reserve. Located along South Africa’s scenic garden route and four hours from Cape Town, Gondwana is a 26,000-acre, malaria-free game reserve. The reserve offers a chance to view the “Big Five” (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo) during twice-daily game drives.
Guests will stay in one of 14 individual suites, consisting of a bedroom with either one or two beds, depending on whether booked as a single or double; sitting area with wood-burning fireplace; private bathroom including a rain shower and bathtub with picture window; and a skylight in the thatched roof. Each suite has an outdoor shaded deck area with seating.
Kwena Lodge Suites has a lounge area and a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can take two game drives per day - one morning drive before breakfast and one afternoon drive after tea. When not on a game drive, guests can enjoy the outdoor pool; book a massage at the spa; use the complimentary mountain bikes on a novice, intermediate, or advanced route in the reserve; or go on bush walks in the fenced, protected area.
